Hi! I'm Thomas, the founder of Exchange Rooms. When I went on exchange a little over two years ago, I experienced how difficult it was to get housing as an exchange student. Now, working for an International Office at a university, I hear the same stories from the exchange students I'm working with. Waiting lists, scams, discrimination and housing websites with pointless but expensive subscriptions. Let's tackle this together!
The problem
Exchange students face many hurdles when going abroad, but the housing problem is one of the biggest.
The housing markets are getting tougher worldwide. Many landlords do not want to rent out a room for only a couple of months, and are reluctant to rent to a student from abroad.
To make things worse, housing websites are not built for exchange students, and they profit from the bad housing market.
The solution
We do not have a magic wand (sorry!), but we do have ambition, determination and the power of community on our side.
Exchange Rooms is a platform where exchange students can advertise their own room for sublet during their exchange, and where they can find a room to stay in during their exchange themselves.
With Exchange Rooms, you pay a one-time contribution of €4,99 to unlock the chat. We keep the contribution as low as possible.
You can advertise your room and browse other rooms for free. Once you have access to the chat, you have access forever — because that is how it should be.
